Mural Project – Quranic Kindergarten in Tehran

Date: October 2019 (Mehr 1398)
Duration: 7 days
Medium: Multi-layer plastic paint on cement walls
Location: Tehran, Iran
Client: Quranic kindergarten with heavily religious and ideological orientation

This project was carried out under the strict framework of a religiously oriented kindergarten, where the requests included imagery of young veiled girls in prayer, depictions of different professions and ethnic groups, as well as characters from the Iranian animation “Shekarestan.”

While the artistic direction was dominated by ideological constraints, I sought to maintain as much of a childlike sense of joy and playfulness as possible, incorporating cartoon-inspired elements and vibrant colors. These touches were meant to balance the mandated themes and provide at least some sense of delight for the children.

Due to the restrictive nature of the commission, I often preferred to have my father lead such projects, as he had more patience for working within such boundaries. Personally, this project remains one of those I would not choose to repeat, though it still reflects an honest effort to bring visual diversity and energy into a limited framework.
